Printer Unable To Connect

Attempting to print, and nothing comes out of the printer? Hmm, perhaps clicking the Print button again will do the trick. You click the button again, and still, nothing comes out. A message pops up suddenly pops up – unable to connect? Strange, as it was working the other day, and my other computer prints just fine.

The Unable to Connect message can be a nuisance and, unfortunately, a typical notification message for failed printing. Some may also experience one computer able to print and not another.

To better understand this message, let’s break down its meaning. The message conveys that the computer cannot “see” or “connect to,” in this case, the printer. Think of a string tied to your computer and printer to visualize this message. The string links the two together. This link is the connection the message is referring to. Taking it a step further, a mouse can run across this string, reaching both sides. If the string gets cut, the link is severed, and the mouse is “unable” to get across.

The computer can not “see” or “connect to” the printer, meaning the connection between the two devices is severed and needs repairing.

Always start with the simple stuff.

  1. Think of the string. What are the points of contact between the two devices? Connect the dots, device to device. In most situations, this involves a computer, router, and printer. The three devices make up the connection. The following will largely solve this problem:
    • Power them all off first. Wait a moment, then back on—this re-establishes communications between them.
    • Try printing something again. In most cases, all previous prints will print out.
  2. Does your computer or printer connect using Wi-Fi? We often see computers connected to the wrong Wi-Fi network.
    • Verify both printer and computer connect to the same Wi-Fi network.

Reinstalling Printer

  1. The last fix recommended for clients to undertake is reinstalling the printer. Sometimes printer files get corrupted and need to be replaced. The process involves removing software, rebooting, and reinstalling software. If you are unsure how to perform these actions, obtain some assistance.
